Wie Ready for British Open

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

Michelle Wie may not win this weekend at the Weetabix Women’s British Open, but the fact remains that she is unlike any 16-year-old I’ve ever known.

Quotes from this week’s pre-game interviews reveal no false bravado seen in many professional team sport athletes, and remain within the standard fare of sports interviews: I feel good about [...]

Wie’s 17th Hole Misfires Costly

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Michelle Wie’s talents are probably beyond my understanding.

My understanding of her talents are probably similar my understanding of Lance Armstrong’s body processing oxygen better than all other humans:

It’s freaky, genetic mutant science.

So I can’t offer much in the analysis of Michelle’s repeated misplays on the par-3, 17th hole, except to say that there’s some kinesthetic [...]

Wie’s Shares Lead at Sexy Evian Masters

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

Michelle Wie, Lorena Ochoa, and Karrie Webb are tied for first at nine under.

Choice quote from the tour page:

Seated with his back to the border of a flower bed, Michelle’s father watches his daughter hit in her third birdie in the game she’s only just begun. Everything she does is committed to the memory of [...]

Michelle Wie Agrees, Naughty School Girl Uniforms Rock

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

It really helps that Michelle Wie is photogenic and well spoken in public.

If she were a fat, ugly, drug abusing, hypocritical, talentless, wind bag of a radio personality then you’d have to think she, as someone of high regard in her field, must be purely a creation of media hype.

She’s as entertaining with a microphone [...]

Five Under for Michelle Wie at Fields Open

Friday, February 24th, 2006

If you’re not getting enough of talented teenagers half your age doing things you couldn’t do in your prime from the olympics there’s always the LPGA where Michelle Wie is aiming for her first win.

I’ve heard Ko Olina referred to as Michelle’s home course, but is there such a thing as “come court advantage” in [...]

Wie, Miyazato, Pressel Face Off at Fields Open

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

Youth will be served at the Fields Open in Hawaii.

U.S. Women’s Open runner-up Morgan Pressel, 17, joins Ai Miyazato, 20 at the course at Ko Olina Resort from Feb. 23-25.

It’s a beautiful place to play, and if I recall correctly, where they shot some of the now defunct Fox show North Shore.

I’ll be working [...]

Michelle Wie One to Watch in 2006

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin’s Paul Arnett does the write up for Michelle Wie in the paper’s “10 To Watch in ‘06″ series.

Arnett provides a nice summary of the goings on in Michelle’s life without cheerleading or malice to sell the story.

Realistically, she will never make a living playing only with the big boys, but for now [...]

Michelle Wie Should Concentrate on the LPGA

Friday, January 6th, 2006

From the comments section of WIEblog, Tony Lord offers this:

As a golf enthusiast, my only question of Ms. Wie and her handlers is: why doesn’t Michelle concentrate on making her mark on the LPGA tour, and then, if she is dominating that tour (as is Anika Sorenstam), then tunr her attention to trying to [...]
