CN Canadian Women’s Open Wants Wie in ‘06

Michelle Wie can play in six LPGA events with sponsor exemptions. This Royal Canadian Golf Association event wouldn’t count toward the six, though they could be a scheduling conflict once the 2006 LPGA calendar is known.

“Michelle and B. J. (her father) are well aware of our event,” said Van Kesteren, who has spoken numerous times with B. J. Wie and twice before offered the Tiger Woods of women’s golf exemptions into the Canadian Women’s Open.

“She wants to play in big events and we are an open championship. That’s one of the things we’ll talk to Michelle and B. J. about.”

Van Kesteren, tournament director for seven years, said the time to approach Wie is when the LPGA releases its 2006 schedule next month.

Annika Sorenstam is holding her own event in Sweden during the CNC Women’s Open.
