Houston Chronicle’s Brighters Bets on Michelle

Jim Brighters, Golf Editor of the Houston Chronicle, calls 2005 the “Year of Controversy” citing four instances of golf curmudgeonry and rule digging with Michelle Wie’s Sam Sung disqualification at number one.

Previewing his upcoming, obligatory end of the year story Brighters offers the following…

1.) What do you think was the biggest story of the year in 2005? Stay tuned for my comprehensive Year in Review later in the week, but I’m going with Michelle Wie’s turning pro. I think this was the onset of the biggest star in golf over the next 30 years along with Tiger.

Fair enough, but here’s one that’ll raise hackles around the egg-nog at the office party:

4.) How about a wild prediction for 2006? I’m going with this - Michelle Wie wins a tournament on the LPGA Tour.

Pro-Wie Campers will obviously raise a glass toward that, while detractors will probably say Brighters was on the “chronic” while writing his piece.
