Once again we’re at a loss of television coverage and it’s killing us. Complaints about Michelle Wie’s Women’s Open exemption were based on the fact that she hasn’t won anything. Shouldn’t this type of performance be rewarded? If she should win her second U.S. Amateur title critics better have their just desserts ready by their sides.

We’re not going to argue that there aren’t duffers more deserving of her spot at the Women’s Open next week, but performances like these, when superstars learn to break out of slumps are what sells any sport. Athletes proving their critics wrong while remaining focused on their own game is great theatre.

We’re shameless this week and looking forward to the Women’s Open. We’ll just say it. We hope Michelle wins tomorrow and continues to improve her play come July 4.
