Michelle Wie faces bunkers, forces of nature, et. al.

It’s just past midnight GMT and we admit it, we’d excited, giddy excited. Heck and we’re on the other side of the world. We’d give anything to see Michelle Wie’s 8:30 a.m. tee time.

There are a couple of good stories going into today’s Curtis Cup play. We enjoyed the Associated Press story in yesterday’s San Francisco Gate that featured this great lead-in:

Michelle Wie has already accomplished one goal in her first appearance in Britain.

“The one thing I wanted to see in England was a pot bunker and when we went to Hoylake I saw one,” she said. “I was really excited. But after I’ve been in it, I never want to see another one again.

The story also noted that Wie used her driver two times during practice — once on the second hole, then on the 18th. We think she’ll be ready when the wind picks up. The forecast is for north westerly winds at 13 mph. Although the wind is nothing compared to the way The Scotsman’s Stuart Bathgate describes Wie.

Great Britain & Ireland team, has been handed the toughest task in this morning’s opening session of the Curtis Cup - taming Michelle Wie, the most powerful, awe-inspiring player in the history of women’s golf.

Just a reminder, there’s no live coverage of the event, though we’ll do our best to track it for you here at WieBlog. Lets hope BBC America sees fit to broadcast their match coverage at a later date.

Visit us later in the day for Saturday round coverage of The Curtis Cup.
