Michelle Wie finishes third at Amateur
Michelle Wie shot a 71 in both the morning and afternoon session today. She finished third behind winners David Bradshaw and Alex Knoll. Winning the U.S. Men’s Public Amateur Links would have put Wie in a position to achieve her dream of playing in the Masters.
Winning the Amateur event was one of the goals she needed to accomplish in order to get to the 2005 Masters. According to the SFGate story, Wie felt that getting to the July match-play tournament by winning today’s event was her best shot, although due to her showing she is an alternate if Bradshaw or Knoll cannot participate.
It’s been a busy summer for Wie, who must now prepare herself for the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open in Massachusetts where many of her LPGA competitors will experience “press envy.” Here’s hoping she finishes in the top five, if not on top.
The U.S. Women’s Open begins on July 1 and runs through July 4.
