Michelle Wie in Masters by 2009?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Steve Hummer offers a quick prognostication in his piece covering recent changes at the Augusta National course.
Standing upon the new Masters tee at the par-3 fourth hole, a media visitor allowed past the gates for a preview of the latest changes almost feels the 35 added yards from the bottoms of his feet.
Imagine setting up for this one, a 240-yard carry to the usual Augusta green (meaning one with 3- to 5-foot swells, protected by a deep pit of sand, bleach-boned white).
Can’t wait to see what Michelle Wie does with this one in, say, the 2009 Masters.
Tongue in cheek for sure as Hummer offers a jab at the Masters Fearless Leader:
The latest changes were finished, without a scar, in less than three-month’s time.
And they were fairly severe, part of Masters Chairman Hootie Johnson’s constant mantra of “maintaining shot values.”
When the chairman is not available, it is necessary to quote dead people about Augusta National’s design, for no one else is cleared to speak for the place.
