Michelle Wie one, Jasmine Trias, who?
Nice cover story by Grace Wen in yesterday’s Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Michelle Wie’s taken to post match soundbites like a pro. She’s confident, yet not boastful. Especially after dropping her foursome matches.
We’ve heard mumblings in the key of “her teammates held her back,” but that’s garbage. When you’re a player of Wie’s caliber the problem with team play is the fact that every other shot she’s not in control of the outcome of the match. It’s partly maturity and mostly experience.
Foursomes are alien to her. They’re very difficult for her to play. But when you see her on her own, she lines up and hits the ball. You talk about the Big Wiesy. She’s truly fantastic. I’m just in awe looking at her. — GB&I captain Ada O’Sullivan
Maintaining focus is one thing, but maintaining it throughout an alternate shot match means knowing when to expend energy on one’s concentration and focus.
Participating in the Curtis Cup and retaining the prize is a baby step toward greatness for Hawaii’s golf prodigy.
