What a GREAT country we live in! Where a 16 year old has the OPPORTUNITY to accomplish what others dare dream! Where the storied sport of golf is being redefined as a "game", a "competition", and (My Heaven!) a "co-ed event"! Can Indy Racing be far behind? Yes, this is REAL, not reality TV. Not even a disqualification at the Sam Sung event could shake her as she has rallied back to show every doubter who she is. Karrie Webb and Lorena Ochoa had to EAGLE the last hole to beat Michelle this week. She is raising the bar for the game of golf!! We should all watch with wonder. Enjow the ride!

Really don't know how to ask this question without offending or have it taken wrong.
I will try, It all goes back to the media and media hype.
Here we have a young lady over six feet tall still in her teens.
She has a great parent base. And even tho she has learned to talk without moving her lips
and says you know a lot. Scholastically she is very smart .
How have people come to almost worship her.
I like her as a golfer but not with the same enthusiasm as her fan base and even that
word doesn't discribe how people really talk and blog about her.
I noticed this weeks tournament Lorena who led most of the way. The lpga.com didn't
have her picture posted as much as Wie.The news hype was all about Wie .
Please understand this is totally out of curiosity.
I follow the lpga a lot more then the pga( that would be the whole lpga.)
I do recognize Annikas greatness in that she has won so much and set all the records.
Even doing that she has no where near ever got all the media hype Wie gets and Wie
hasn't won yet. and yet her fan base is almost cultist.
Ms Wies parents has made their daughter a house whole name.
Tigers parents made his name a house whole name.
Difference Tiger never dodged any tournaments and beat everybody
Wie only played where it would help her. Would not play in the amature tournaments
This munipulation of humans by the media amazes me .
I honestly feel sorry for people that can be munipulated with such completeness.
Some where in there is the formula for taking over the world.

Michelle should learn how to win within her own age group before trying to bang it with the big guns(male or female) She is being pushed too fast.
Slow down and learn like Tiger did at his father's instruction. There's plenty of time for this other route she's taking now.

Michelle Wie needs to learn from the best (PGA Tour). She will acquire better golf course management observing the men. She will learn when to take chances and be aggressive or when to lay it up and cut down on mistakes. Let's give her the same chances as Tiger had. From the chart below I'd say she did better than Tiger did with her exemptions.

Tiger Woods BIRTHDATE: December 30, 1975

Michelle Wie A Different Perspective

I see so many taking shots at how Michelle Wie should do things differently, play more amateur events, learn how to win, don't turn pro, don't comptete against men learn to win against women etc etc etc.

I just took a look at the career stats of Annika Sorenstam (Easily the #1 All time) and Dottie Pepper (Great Player & Biggest Wie Basher) and checked how they did at the start of their careers compared to what Michelle has done to this point.

Annika first played an LPGA event at age 22 in 1992, played 3 events in 1993 with 2 top 10's, then started full-time in 1994, 18 events with 3 top 10's, In her second full-time year 1995 she dominated with 12 top 10's and 3 wins in 19 events.

Starting at Age 22, It took her 34 events before she won on the LPGA tour, and in those 34 events she had 17 top 10's in 33 starts. She won her first event in her second full-time year.

Dottie first played in an LPGA event at age 18 in 1983 and missed the cut, played 1-2 events per year from 1984 - 1987 with no top 10's in 5 years (only 6 events) her sixth year of playing the LPGA (first year full-time) she was Rookie of the Year with 7 top 10's in 25 starts with no wins.

Starting at Age 18, It took her 33 events before she won on the LPGA tour, and in those 33 events she had 7 top 10's in 33 starts. She won her first event in her second full-time year.

Michelle Wie

At Age 12, Played 3 events missed 3 cuts (At Age 12)
At Age 13, Played 6 events made 5 cuts and 1 Top 10
At Age 14, Played 7 events made 7 cuts, 6 Top 20's, a 4th and a 6th
At Age 15, Played 7 events made 6 cuts, 6 Top 25's, 3 2nd Place Finishes, DQ'd in other event while in 3rd place

So far Wie has played a total of 23 LPGA events (counting the 3 she played when she was 12) and has 3 2nd place finishes.

Remember it took Anika and Dottie 33 events before they broke into the winners circle, and both did it in their 2nd full-time year.

AND

Both could drive themselves home and stop
at the bar for a drink if they wanted to.

Is Tony aware that Wie is playing the MAXIMUM number of LPGA events she's allowed? By the rules of the LPGA, she's two years too young to become a member of the LPGA and get to play in more events. So, how in the heck is she thumbing her nose at the LPGA Tour, and what's the problem with Wie augmenting her maxed-out LPGA schedule with a few men's events? She gets to learn from the best players in the world on the PGA Tour and improve both her long and short games so she'll ultimately be more competitive against the women as well as the men.

I have to disagree with Tony, mostly because I don't understand why he (and so many other critics) think they know what's best for Michelle. She and her parents are more than capable of making those decisions, and it would appear that her bank account backs them up! She can't even play full time on the LPGA at the moment because of the age requirement. Why shouldn't she play anywhere and everywhere that she wishes? Sure, I want to see her win as well, and her best chance for that is on the LPGA tour, but she'll get plenty of chances to play there this year while also competing all over the world in lots of different venues and circumstances. Can't see where that's a bad thing at all.
