Wie 6th going into match play; Kono 3rd

Michelle Wie had a tough one out on the links today: A three-putt triple-bogey including a penalty stroke, second worst only to her four-putt double-bogey in yesterday’s first round.

She’s now in a four way tie for sixth after shooting a 1-under 71 (70/71 - 141). Even with the bad breaks there’s still a Hawaii born player in the top five.

Honolulu’s 14-year-old Stephanie Kono, Wie’s classmate, shot a 3-under 69 (70/69 - 139) today putting her in good position going into match play. She’s paired with Lehua Wise of Lihue, Hawaii who shot a 148 during stroke play.

Wie is paired against Elena Kurokawa of Redondo Beach, California (148). The match play tree is like the NCAA Basketball Tournament. It begins with a field of 64 until Sunday’s head-to-head play.
