Wie Finishes Day Four Behind Leader

Michelle Wie finished the day at 1-under. She’s on the leaderboard and is in a good position to make a run at the top going into Saturday. In what would be an otherwise average day on the links, B.J. Wie may have cost his daughter two strokes.

The incident in question happened on the 16th hole, an otherwise unremarkable par-4 Michelle handled easily during Thursday play.

Michelle had an easy play to make. Nothing out of the ordinary: An approach shot from the fairway, onto the green. It’s like the kicker putting the football through the goal posts after a touchdown. Automatic right?

Not unless your caddie offers you a bad recommendation and you take it, at least that’s how it appeared after the shot when Michelle had a few words with dad.

Michelle punched the shot clear over the green, past the hole, and into the rough. She ended up with a double-bogey on a hole that she should parred keeping her close to the current leader Jennifer Rosales of the Philippines.

Don’t expect this to become an issue Daddy Wie looks out for his daughter and won’t make the same mistake twice.

Weekend play will air on NBC starting at 3 p.m. EDT / 9 a.m. HST on both days.
