Wie LPGA Recap; Daddy Wie knows all

When Michelle Wie finished in the top 20 during the U.S. Women’s Open she answered critics who said she didn’t deserve an exemption. Wie’s four round total of 1-over 285 tied her with 17-year-old amatuer Paula Creamer. With her finish she is an automatic exemption for the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open. So where does she go from here?

Daddy Wie has something to say about it: Michelle will compete against men to improve her game.

Whoa. We’re all about boundless optimism when it comes to Michelle Wie’s abilities, but is it too early to place this particular burden on her shoulders? A teenager playing against professionals is one thing. Pitting her against the opposite gender is another.

If you thought there was a brewing resentment among a few LPGA members do you think the occasionally stodgy PGA boys won’t experience the same thing? Yeah, Tom Watson, we’re looking in your direction. Tom gets bent out of shape if Bill Murray sets foot on the driving range.

Perhaps this is for the best. Daddy Wie says she “learns a lot playing against the men.” So continues her advance toward the professional ranks. Had she turned pro Wie would have earned $191,526 this year.

She’s still single, right?

More to come…
